Country superstar Carrie Underwood lets loose with a sun-kissed blast of summertime fun on her new single, “Southbound.”
Co-written by the superstar with producer David Garcia and Josh Miller, the feel-good jam features a propulsive rhythm, sunny guitar riffs and breezy organ accents. It’s the first time in recent years that the Oklahoma native has offered up such a carefree track, and its good-time lyrics are all about pontoon-boat weekends, two-for-one redneck margaritas, tan lines and cheap sunglasses.
“To get a little southbound, unwound, Tennessee Honey kinda buzz / Them South sounds up loud, summer drippin’ over us / From the river bank to the party cove / As long as it floats, we’ll rock the boat / And it’s all lookin’ up when we get down, yeah / And get a little southbound,” goes the feel-good chorus.
“Southbound” is the third single from Underwood’s Cry Pretty album, and the hit maker delivered a colorful performance of the track on this year’s ACM Awards. Its release will lead straight into a summer filled with concert dates, when Underwood kicks off the Cry Pretty Tour 360 May 1st in Greensboro, North Carolina, with Maddie & Tae and Runaway June as opening acts.
