Chris Lane takes a page out of the old cowboy playbook for his latest country track, releasing the flirtatious new song, “Howdy.”

A fun-loving romantic gem with a dreamy, Western feel, the song features another blast of Lane’s signature sly smolder, and a sonic twinkle in his eye.

Written by John Byron, Sam Ellis and Blake Pendergrass, “Howdy” is a swaying midtempo with a pure-country approach, and a light-hearted play on words to match. Tracing the evolution of a bar room come-on from “how’s it going?” to “how could anyone live without you?,” the tune is proof that sometimes, a cowboy knows just what to say.

“‘Howdy’ is a fun one – the play on words is super clever and it’s going to be a great addition to my set list on tour,” Lane shared when it was released. “Hope y’all love it!”

How’d he ever let you go? How’d he ever walk away? / He must’ve gone and hopped on a crazy train / How’d he ever let himself let another old John Wayne / Come up and cowboy say? / ‘Howdy?‘” goes the chorus hook.

Part of a long line of clever country rompers, “Howdy” follows Lane’s “Stop Coming Over” and “Fill Them Boots,” plus “Summer Job Money” and a pair of tracks dedicated to his wife and infant son — “That’s What Mamas Are For” and “Ain’t Even Met You Yet.”

The North Carolina native is currently headlining his Fill Them Boots Tour through April, and enjoying fatherhood with Dutton.
