This Is Us actress and newly singed country artist Chrissy Metz delivered a stunning moment of encouragement and solidarity at the Academy Awards on Sunday night (February 9), performing “I’m Standing With You” from the film, Breakthrough.

Marking one of the Oscars’ most captivating musical moments, Metz’s live rendition of the emotional track turned into a tender tribute to her mother, who suffered a massive stroke a few years ago. Joined onstage by a choir who were arranged on a “stairway to Heaven,” the talented vocalist let her presence fill Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater with supportive passion — and she finished the performance off with a personal message, delivered with the whole world watching. “I love you, mom,” she proclaimed.

“I’m Standing With You” was written by the legendary Diane Warren and nominated for Best Original Song, sung by Metz during her starring role in last year’s Breakthrough film. Although it ultimately lost to Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from the movie Rocketman, Metz certainly won over the star-studded audience — just like she won over Music City. She signed a record deal with Universal Music Group Nashville last month, and plans to release a solo country album.
