Acclaimed actress and rising country singer Chrissy Metz has released “Actress,” a song that details the often-unseen sad sides about being one.

The ballad, co-written by Metz, Matt McGinn, Nathan Spicer and Nicolette Hayford, tells an aching story like no other. “Thank God I’m an actress / He don’t know what’s on my mind / And even though I’m laughin’ / I ain’t havin’ a good time,” Metz sings, offering a painful reflection on running into an ex and his new love and having to hide the hurt that still rips her heart apart.

“I love a good break up song and I love the play on words,” the This Is Us star said in a statement. “Obviously, I’m an actress, but we have all had those experiences where we put on that brave face when our heart is just broken, we act as if nothing is wrong even though you’re dying inside – wanting something so desperately you don’t have anymore.”

Metz is gearing up to release her debut full-length project via EMI Nashville/Universal Music Group. Prior to this, the Florida native shared her major label debut single “Talking to God,” and starred in the 2019 faith-based movie, Breakthrough, where she performed the Diane Warren-penned track, “I’m Standing With You.”

Metz is scheduled to perform “I’m Standing With You” as a tribute to first responders and front-liners of the COVID-19 crisis on PBS’ A Capitol Fourth. Fans can tune in on July 4 at 8 p.m. ET / 7 CT.
