Dan + Shay focus on the positive in their mood brightening new single, “Glad You Exist,” celebrating the simple power of companionship — especially in hard times.

Released Friday (February 5) and featuring a relaxed roots-pop sound, the new track is all about the comfort of having a special someone. It was written by the duo’s Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney alongside Ryan Lewis, Tayla Parx and Jordan Reynolds, and finds the chart-topping pair using their signature vocal harmony and an upbeat delivery on a “thanks for being you” anthem — one that could just as easily be for a friend as a romantic partner. Everybody needs somebody (no matter what’s going on), but the guys say that over the last year, they’ve learned not to take the connections they have for granted.

“To us, ‘Glad You Exist’ is more than just a song. It’s a message of gratitude and hope,” they explain. “A message to everyone in our lives: our fans, our friends, our families, to remind them all how grateful we are to be on the planet at the same time. It’s truly remarkable when you think about it. We’ve spent the majority of the past year, like many others, searching for answers and a sense of normalcy, but finding comfort in memories of better days (that we all know will return soon). Concerts, bonfires, road trips with friends, even the simple things like date night at a restaurant, or beers at a bar during a football game.

“This song has taken on a new meaning not being able to see our loved ones in person, but throughout history, music has always had a special way of bringing people together, even when we are furthest apart,” the statement goes on. “These words hold a special place in our hearts, and hopefully they will in yours too. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again (and again). We’re just so glad you exist. Every. Single. One of you.”

“There’s a couple billion people in the world / And a million other places we could be, but you’re here with me / Take a moment just to take it in / ‘Cause every high and every low led to this / I’m just so glad you exist,” says the chorus.

“Glad You Exist” hits country radio on Monday (February 8), and the song follows the fifth consecutive Number One single from Dan + Shay, “I Should Probably Go To Bed.” Up next for the hit makers will be a featured spot as battle mentors on the upcoming 20th season of NBC’s The Voice.
