Dan + Shay get wrapped up in heartbreak in their new single, “I Should Probably Go to Bed,” mixing a poppy R&B approach with a pure-country theme.

Written earlier this year and produced entirely by the group’s Dan Smyers at his home studio in Nashville (he played every instrument on the song), the track pushes Dan + Shay’s sound further into the Top 40 mainstream, while still offering plenty of what country fans love. Shay Mooney’s high flying vocal is as expressive as ever — or maybe more so — while the pair sing of not being able to deal with the emotional fallout of a breakup. Meanwhile, a surrealist video brings the untethered-to-reality vibe of the song’s plot to visual life.

“So I should probably go to bed / I should probably turn off my phone / I should quit while I’m ahead / I should probably leave you alone / ‘Cause I know in the mornin’ / I’ll be callin’ / Sayin’ sorry for the things I said / So I, yeah, I should probably go to bed,” goes the down-in-the-dumps chorus.

“I Should Probably Go to Bed” follows Dan + Shay’s previous single, the record breaking crossover smash of “10,000 Hours” (with Justin Bieber). That romantic standout notched the biggest first-week streaming total in country music history, and has so far accumulated more than one billion global streams.
