Darius Rucker Cures the Quarantine Blues in ‘Beers and Sunshine’
"The only B.S. I need, is beers and sunshine"
Darius Rucker has the cure for your quarantine blues, cracking open a summertime anthem called “Beers and Sunshine” as his latest single.
Written by the star with Ross Copperman, J.T. Harding and Josh Osborne, the feel-good track is all about checking off your to-do list, and checking out of the everyday grind. With a sunny country sound and Rucker’s raspy vocal in full effect, the South Carolina native sings about “the only B.S.” he needs.
“Beers and sunshine / Bonfires and summertime / Back porch nights in South Carolina / Ain’t nothing finer than me and my girl, striking up a little lighter / ‘Cause everybody’s down in a world gone crazy / Don’t know how to fix it but I think maybe / Turn on the good times, turn off the TV / Yeah, the only BS I need, is beers and sunshine,” goes the laid-back chorus.
“It’s certainly been a hard year so far with a lot of heaviness around us constantly,” Rucker explains. “Like it says in the song, I don’t know how we fix any of these big, real issues that we’re facing, but while we work through this time I think it’s important that we find the silver lining where we can really enjoy the little moments and the simple joys of time spent together with friends and family.”
“Beers and Sunshine” is the first new single in two years for Rucker, following the star-studded collab single, “Straight to Hell” (featuring Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Charles Kelley). It marks the first taste of a brand new album project, and arrives as Rucker is focusing on passion projects while touring is halted for COVID-19. The longtime supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital just (virtually) hosted his annual Darius and Friends charity concert, raising another quarter of a million dollars to help kids beat cancer.
