Co-written by Lynch, Zack Crowell and Ashley Gorley, the breezy, sultry track effortlessly creates the image of a young couple going on a night drive with no destination in mind. Though he co-wrote it, Lynch owes the idea of the song to his friends.
“Thank God I’ve got crazy friends that are actually out here livin’ life to its fullest,” Lynch said during a recent press conference with Sounds Like Nashville and other local media. One morning he saw one of his friends’ crazy Instagram stories from the night before, which inspired him.
“He had a truck full of girls and guys, and they were just riding roads, partying dancing, just going nuts in his truck,” explained the Tennessee native. “I just started thinking, ‘I want to capture this energy in a song.’”
From there, Lynch entered the studio with Crowell and Gorley, and starting from scratch, the three went to work on crafting the song.
“We took probably five hours just to try and figure out how to sing it tough and sexy,” the country crooner shared. It quickly turned into a song about himself and a girl going out into the middle of nowhere, having no idea where they are but still having fun nonetheless.
After that, the song began to come together line-by-line. Lynch spent all of summer 2018 playing it on his boat, just mumbling along until he finally found the right lyrics.
“Since releasing it, its honestly done better than I expected it to do,” he said. “You don’t expect songs to just kind of organically, by word of mouth, blow up and it’s done well so far.”
Lynch will spend much of 2019 ‘ridin’ roads’ as he tours the country as part of Thomas Rhett’s Very Hot Summer Tour, kicking off May 17 in Spokane, WA.
