Rising country artist Emily Brooke is taking a trip to heartbreak central with her new song, “Easy On Me.”

The pensive piano ballad, co-written with Lauren McLamb and Mignon Grabois, finds a heartbroken Brooke standing on the cusp of a looming breakup. Although ready for the inevitable, she is brutally honest about the despairing state it’ll thrust her in, and the gripping heartache that will linger after.

“I can feel the break in my heart already coming on, so please don’t drag it on,” Brooke pleads in a verse, before declaring in the chorus: “If you’re gonna break it to me, break it completely, don’t go easy on me.”

In just three weeks since its release, “Easy On Me” has amassed over 116k streams on Spotify alone, proving how this song’s universal message of heartbreak has resonated with many.

Brimming with gratitude, Brooke tells Sounds Like Nashville that “it has been so overwhelming seeing the response to this song.”

“It is so incredible. [‘Easy On Me’] has been streamed and it keeps growing! My heart is going to explode. I’m just so blown away and can’t believe how many stories people have shared with me on how they relate to this song.”

She adds, “It’s really beautiful that a song about such heartbreak can bring so many people together.”

Since her time as a Top 24 finalist on Season 14 of American Idol, Brooke has been working hard on her craft as an artist. Her debut self-titled EP, which dropped in 2017, feature songs penned by acclaimed songwriters such as Jeremy Bussey, Jamie Floyd and Josh Kerr. On the touring front, Brooke has also opened for Kelsea Ballerini, Old Dominion, Ryan Hurd, Randy Houser and more.

More new music from the promising newcomer is slated to drop later this year. While you wait, listen to “Easy On Me” and other new country releases on our New Nashville playlist below.
