When it came time to score the soundtrack for the new film Dumplin’, there was no better person to enlist than country icon and Tennesee native Dolly Parton. The singer’s music is a featured cornerstone of the main character’s personality, as she uses the tunes for self-affirmation each and every day.
For the film, Parton revisited some of her biggest hits, while also combining forces with the brightest acts in music today. As the creator of the soundtrack, the “Jolene” singer called up Sia, Elle King, Mavis Staples, Miranda Lambert, Willa Amai, Rhonda Vincent, Alison Krauss, Macy Gray and DOROTHY for help on the tunes.
The story follows a young, overweight girl that goes by Dumplin’ (Danielle Macdonald). After years of putting up with her mother’s (Jennifer Aniston) Texas beauty pageant, Dumplin’ decides to shake things up and enter the competition herself in hopes of revolutionizing the traditional pageant.
To celebrate the release of Dumplin’ and the original movie soundtrack, Sounds Like Nashville is offering fans a chance to take home a piece of the film. One grand prize winner will be randomly selected to win a Dumplin’ prize pack consisting of the soundtrack on CD, a t-shirt and a mug. One runner up will take home the soundtrack and a tiara.
