Like many country stars today, Eric Church is using the COVID-19 quarantine to recharge his batteries — and to rethink what he does best.

Speaking with the AP recently, the “Some of It” hit maker explains that before the pandemic hit, he had already exiled himself to a North Carolina recording studio. There he wrote and recorded nearly 30 new songs — including the recently-teased “Through My Ray Bans” — and although that anthemic track has yet to be officially released, Church says now its original meaning has changed.

“That song took on a totally different meaning to me when I recorded it in February than it does now,” the singer songwriter says, famous for always wearing a pair of Ray Ban aviators on stage. All about “an army of Friday night soldiers,” Church thinks of the song now as less of a rally cry and more of a tribute. “In February it was about this camaraderie we have when we tour. Now it’s a bigger meaning, it’s a bigger thing.”

Church goes on to tell the AP that he actually thinks his game-changing concert tours will be held back much longer than most are assuming, expecting large gatherings to be shut down until “summer or fall of ’21″ when a vaccine becomes available. But he also says fans won’t be totally on their own during that time, since his new material is strong enough in his eyes to produce up to three new albums. And when things do finally get back to normal, he figures the good times will roll.

“I think about the 1918 pandemic, and there’s a reason the Roaring Twenties happened,” Church said. “When people roared, they roared. I believe that will happen again.”
