Eric Church looks back to the golden days of youth in the new track, “Heart On Fire,” capturing the burning desire to live life to its fullest in a song.

Released January 29 as part of Church’s upcoming triple-album project, the set comes from the now infamous month-long writing retreat Church used to experiment with a new writing process. He wrote and recorded an entire song each day for 28 days over that trip, and “Heart On Fire” is one of the most upbeat songs to emerge.

Featuring a freewheeling, Tom Petty-meets-The Rolling Stones feel, the sentimental anthem pays tribute to teenage rebellion and the youthful drive to experience all life has to offer. With ringing acoustic guitars and a rowdy rock stomp, Church shouts and sings of how much he misses days gone by, uncorking a vocal that may inspire some to bring those days back into the present tense.

“We weren’t old enough to drink, but we damn sure did it / Hat turned backward, singing ‘Paradise City’ / That look on your face was full of young desire / Soaking my soul in gas, and setting my heart on fire,” goes the spirit lifting hook.

Eric Church shocked fans by announcing triple album on January 21, delivering a special message about a project titled Heart & Soul. “Heart On Fire” is part of that ambitious project, along with other previously released songs like “Hell of a View,” “Crazyland” and more, all written and recorded during that fateful month-long writing retreat. The album will come out in stages on will come out in stages on April 16 and 23, and Church recently opened up about how it came to be. He’ll also perform the national anthem with Jazmine Sullivan at this year’s Super Bowl.
