Hudson Moore may be a Texas boy at heart, but he’s brought his big sound out to Nashville to give it a go in the heartland of country music.

With a range of influences from country music stars like Keith Urban to music icons like Michael Jackson and the Eagles, Moore’s unique take on country music is what makes his sound stand out among the rest of the country music community. He has taken on the difficult task of making fresh music that reflects his tastes and his perspective.

“I try to take the best elements of different genres and sort of make them my own and deliver it in my own new way. I think that’s going to be the challenge for any musician moving forward is trying to take what you love and mold it into something new. So that’s what I try to do,” he explained to Sounds Like Nashville.

As a self-proclaimed “student of music,” Moore is also interested in learning as much as possible about his creative passion. Playing 11 instruments on his latest album from guitar to banjo to mandolin and keys, he makes each song bigger and better with the layers of instrumental and lyrical depth he provides.

“I try to, I just want to have a unique voice, I want to present something new and fresh. I want people to hear things that they love from other artists, but I also want to provide, I want, when my song comes on, they know it’s me,” said Moore.

“Girl Like You” is one song off the record that takes the layered effect and creates a country sound unlike many others on the album. The song showcases the diverse styles of music that play a part in Moore’s production and highlight his lyrical ability as well. Noting that the song was about four years in the making, he took his time with this one as it was the last song recorded for the project and still one of Moore’s favorites.

“That song’s cool because it’s had a really interesting evolution. I wrote that with a friend, Luke [Tedford], in Fort Worth probably four years ago. It’s taken off a different arrangement. First he sent me just a voice memo of literally just that chorus. What does a guy like me do to get a girl like you? I think it was in a different key, it was a different tempo, and I just knew. I was, like, ‘Dude, that’s a really good line.’ Even though it’s simple, it’s something that I think a lot of people can relate to, and it’s just interesting,” he said.

A mixture of all of Moore’s favorites, “Girl Like You” marks a huge turning point in the sound of country music, showing other artists that sometimes traditions can be altered to make room for other incredible influences.

“It turned out, in my opinion, to probably be one of the most interesting sonically and kind of fuses different influences of mine – Motown funk, like Eagles meets Michael Jackson meets country vibe. I’m really happy with the way it turned out,” said Moore.
