Gabby Barrett has already achieved things that many people told her were impossible. And for her latest single, “Footprints On the Moon,” the breakout talent is reminding fans they can do the same.

Chatting with CMT’s Cody Alan for an episode of the Cody Cast, Barrett explains that her new song celebrates those with a rocket-powered drive to make things happen — a drive that has famously taken her into the country stratosphere.

After starting out on American Idol, Barrett’s debut single, “I Hope,” dominated 2020 country radio playlists, earning her a 5x-Platinum Number One and awards from CMT, Billboard and more — including the ACM New Female Artist of the Year trophy. She then followed up with another chart topper — “The Good Ones” — and has also welcomed a baby girl into her world with the birth of Baylah in January. So, things are going well.

Meanwhile, “Footprints On the Moon” features the blood pumping sound of a country-pop epic, with powerhouse vocals and lyrics encouraging listeners that their dreams are possible — because after all, there are footprints on the moon. And for added proof, its music video traces Barrett’s rise using actual photos from her childhood.

“One of the reasons why I wanted to release it, is with my first three singles, I really want people to get to know me through my music,” Barrett told Alan. “I like my music to be very genuine to me and my life. With ’I Hope’ it was very heartbreak and loss and then ’Good Ones’ was finding hope, being married and all that good stuff, and then the next part to me is the trying to be uplifting part of myself as well, to people who may be in that same spot…that I was in when I was shooting for a very large dream that nobody believed in. A lot of people were very negative through school, anywhere and everywhere that I went, and it was difficult and I wish I had a song to listen to at the time that I was going through that, and so for anybody else that is going through it, I wanted to release it for them to help them in any way.”

“Footprints on the Moon” is out now, marking the third single off Goldmine, the debut album from Gabby Barrett. She recently had to cancel a pair of concert appearances due to pneumonia, but will be hitting the road this summer on Thomas Rhett’s Center Point Road tour — if she can get some sleep, that is. The hitmaker went on to tell CMT the toughest part of being a new mom is just getting enough rest.

“Sleep, sleep would definitely be that,” she said. “It’s one thing to not get sleep from having four a.m. flights and running and doing this all the time. It was just high-energy as to what you were going to do when I was having to wake up and get on flights and all of that, you knew that you were going to do a show and it was high-energy and all that so it kept you going, but you’re not having a concert when you are having a child. So sleep, has been a big thing. And not getting enough sleep definitely takes a toll on the human body. It’s difficult in motherhood, but it’s all a blessing.”
