Edgy newcomer HARDY keeps his bags packed and his “Boots” on in his latest release, going full hard-rocker for a classic country breakup anthem.

A grungy, heavy-metal tribute to blacking out in your boots and waking up the next morning to realize it was actually for the best — because that’s one less thing to put on as you’re getting kicked to the curb — the “Rednecker” singer wrote “Boots” with David Garcia and Hillary Lindsey. But he then cranked up the emotional volume, enlisting producers Joey Moi and Derek Wells to give the track a fiery, flame-throwing dose of rock mayhem.

“I’m so glad this song is out in the world,” the hit songwriter behind Blake Shelton’s “God’s Country” says. “‘Boots’ is a perfect representation of who I am as an artist. It’s a country lyric but it sounds like a rock-and-roll song.”

“I woke up in my boots this morning / Fell asleep in my boots last night / Had a feeling that I’d run out of warnings / Girl, I couldn’t have been more right,” goes the hungover and heartbroken chorus.

HARDY spoke with Sounds Like Nashville about his breakout track “Rednecker” last year, the track that helped introduce him as a top-flight lyricist with a knack for finding new approaches to classic topics. He’ll aim to keep that reputation going with his first full length album later this year — the follow up to his star-studded Hixtape: Volume 1, which featured collaborations with Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett, Morgan Wallen and more. Included on that set is “One Beer” featuring Devin Dawson and Lauren Alaina, which is now climbing through country radio’s Top 40.
