Fresh face Cale Dodds keeps his eyes on the romantic prize with his vibrant new single “I Like Where This is Going.”
Co-written by the Georgia native with producer busbee and hit maker Nicolle Galyon, the smooth standout features a modern blend of pop-country sonics and a thick layer of Dodds’ boy-next-door charm. With a steady rhythmic pulse building to a big rush of romance, Dodds says it’s all about that moment just before the bottle gets uncorked and the needle drops on your favorite record.
“‘I Like Where This Is Going’ is about anticipation,” he explains. “It’s the feeling of suspense, like the last song at prom before the lights come up or the moment before dropping a girl off after a first date, not knowing what’s going to happen next. There’s a beauty in the uncertainty of what’s going to happen, while having faith that it’s going to unfold in the right way. Nicolle and busbee helped me guide the ship on this song and really helped bring my vision to life in the writer’s room. If four out of five first dates are awkward … this is the one you’ve been waiting on.”
Dodds was named one of Sounds Like Nashville’s New Country Artists to Watch in 2019. He’s released a number of digital tracks over the last few years, including the 2018 singles “Take You Back,” “What We Gonna Do About It” and “Where I Get It From.” He’ll keep pushing forward this spring, joining Chase Rice for the Eyes On You Tour through mid May.
