Pop superstar Justin Bieber has put a country spin on his latest hit, “Yummy,” cooking up a down home collaboration with Florida Georgia Line.
Adding banjo and pedal steel to the track’s grooving foundation, the pop and hip-hop based tune doesn’t stray too far from its musical roots — but with FGL’s help, it gets a noticeably countryfied lyrical twist.
Kicking off with an intro from FGL’s Tyler Hubbard, Beiber then adds his take on a thick Southern accent to a brand new first verse. “Bona fide stallion / In no stable, no you stay on the run / Ain’t on the side, you’re number one / Yeah, every time I come around you get ‘er done,” the Canadian native drawls.
The track’s ear-worm chorus remain largely unchanged, but then it’s FGL’s turn to take a verse — and they let the lustful “Yummy” theme boil over in true country-boy style.
“Shout out girl, I’m on the way / I been up in Waffle House, but you my Chik-fil-A / And I been into waffle fries since our first date / Ain’t got time for playin’, I’ma clean your whole plate (Girl, I’ma lick it up) / Woo, yes, yummy, let me take ya to the country / We can call it home cookin’, I’m your chicken, you my dumpling, / We say grace, I say thanks, for my baby and this drank / Let me slide on over girl and get a taste (Let’s roll),” it goes.
Just released on Tuesday (February 18), “Yummy” is neither artist’s first crossover adventure. FGL collaborated with everyone from Backstreet Boys to The Chainsmokers, of course, while Bieber just scored his first Number One at country radio with the Dan + Shay duet, “10,000 Hours.”
