This weekend, people all over the country will be celebrating the Fourth of July, and while celebrations may be a little different this year due to the ongoing pandemic, it’s still possible to enjoy the holiday. The guys of Home Free recently reflected on some of their favorite Fourth of July activities and gave a little insight into what they’ll be up to this year. For Rob Lundquist, whose family usually heads to the lake on the day, celebrations will be different this year, but there is one positive to the altered plans.

“We usually go up to my in-laws’ cabin in northern Minnesota that is right on a lake,” Lundquist told Sounds Like Nashville. “We’ll get the boat all decked out in red white and blue and go join the boat parade that goes around the lake and jam out to some patriotic tunes such as ‘God Bless The USA.’ We’ll grill out and play games throughout the day and watch the fireworks display in the evening. Bummed out that we won’t be able to do that this year, but my dog will probably be happy to not have to deal with the fireworks.”

Band member Adam Chance isn’t too bothered by the state of the country being a little different on this Fourth of July, as he’s pretty used to going with the flow on the holiday.

“I don’t think any two of my Fourth of July memories have ever been the same, so that’s part of what makes it fun,” he says. “Just as long as there are good friends, some good drinks and a grill, everything else is just a bonus.”

Austin Brown has distinct memories of the Fourth of July growing up. He says his family’s favorite thing to do was driving over state lines in order to get some fireworks for the occasion.

“Like a lot of American families, my father would go out and get as many fireworks as possible for the 4th,” he says. “But what made it even more special was the road trip to South Carolina or Tennessee. At the time, fireworks were still illegal in my home state of Georgia, so we would road trip it to stock up and those memories are some of my favorite!”

Band member Tim Foust has a similar recollection of Fourth of July holidays of the past. His memories include some of the quintessential Fourth of July activities that are sure to spur memories in the minds of many Americans.

“When I think of the 4th of July, I immediately picture hamburgers on the grill, water-related activities, homemade ice cream and fireworks questionably within the city limits,” he says. “It’s all warmly nostalgic.”
