Fresh off the heels of her history-making No. 1 song “More Hearts Than Mine,” rising country star Ingrid Andress has announced her follow-up single, another stellar ballad— “The Stranger.”

Penned by Andress and Ryan Lafferty, the tender tune narrates an individual’s longing for the simple, innocent, head-over-heels sparks between a couple when they started dating, before the complexities of romance kicked in.

“You play the stranger, I’ll play the girl at the bar / The same place where all this got started / Sometimes I wish I didn’t know you at all / So we could do it all over / And fall all over each other again,” Andress sings sentimentally in the chorus.

“When I wrote this song, I wanted people to know that it’s OK if you’re not super in love with your partner all the time,” the singer said in an interview with Billboard. “It’s completely normal to feel like you’ve grown apart because we all change on a daily basis. Most love songs don’t talk about that, so I wanted everyone who feels this way to have a song.”

Earlier in March, the 28-year-old also dropped an accompanying, stunning music video. Directed by Emma Higgins, the visual unfolds the heartfelt emotions of six pairs of individuals (of varying relationship levels) who sit across each other and share a simple human-to-human gaze without uttering a word.

Additionally, the Atlantic/Warner Music Nashville artist released her critically-acclaimed album Lady Like. The eight-track record includes “More Hearts Than Mine,” “The Stranger,” and “Both,” and became the highest streaming country female debut album of all time.

“The Stranger” officially hits country radio on June 1.
