Canadian country favorites James Barker Band adjust their clocks for three months of fun in the new single, “Summer Time,” celebrating the laid back life that comes with warmer weather.

Backing their feel-good singalong with breezy guitars, a foot-tapping beat and Barker’s bright, carefree vocal, the uptempo track is purpose built for fun in the sun (side effects may include smiles and the desire to go outside). Tied to the way time seems to slow down in summer, with days getting longer and nights getting hotter, it features a clever play on words co-written by Barker, Gavin Slate, Travis Wood and Todd Clark. And according to Barker, the positive message is even more important to deliver this summer.

“We know how important summer is for people and we know this summer feels a little bit different,” Barker says, “but we hope the song spreads a little positivity and fans connect with that nostalgic feeling of a more relaxed state of mind that comes with this season.”

“It’s nothing but long days, and hot nights / Sitting round watching them fireflies fly / Heat waves and Ray Bans / Keeping it cool, cold one in my hand / With the playlist playin’ through the bluetooth / Stars through the moonroof / Yea I could get used to three months of nothing but / Soaking up the sunshine / We on summer time,” goes the chorus.

“Summer Time” marks the first new music from the Juno and CCMA award-winning band since the 2019 release of their sophomore EP, Singles Only. More new music is in the works, and the group just wrapped up 75-straight nights of live-streaming shows with the #sixoclockshadowsessions series.
