Jerrod Niemann Visits PS22 Chorus

Country star Jerrod Niemann appears radiant these days as his current hit “Shinin’ On Me” climbs to the Top 15 on Billboard and his new album Free The Music is available this week, but he truly lit up Tuesday, Oct. 2, when the fifth graders of the acclaimed PS22 Chorus joined him in singing. Featured on “Oprah,” “NBC Nightly News,” “Anderson Cooper 360°” and more, the children are recognized for their outstanding musical and academic accomplishments. Niemann stopped by their school, Public School 22, in Graniteville, Staten Island, N.Y. to donate new instruments and little did he know, his lone acoustic performance of “Shinin’ On Me” would come to life with the sound of 65 fifth grade voices singing along to the chorus. Moved by their performance, Niemann was all smiles and candor as he told stories about his humble beginnings as a singer/songwriter in hopes of encouraging them to follow their dreams. The entire visit with the PS22 Chorus can be viewed HERE.

“Having a chance to meet and perform with PS22 was like no other experience. Those children have so much talent and passion for music that I am so inspired and proud to be their biggest fan,” says Niemann.

As if their singing wasn’t enough to top off Niemann’s day, the fifth graders chanted “Jerrod, Jerrod, Jerrod!” after he revealed a brand new digital piano and drum set. The piano was especially well-recieved, as their old piano was in need of repairs and the parts neccessary to fix it had been discontinued. When Niemann heard the news, he wanted to make sure to replace it so that they can continue to ‘free the music’ for generations to come.

Also while in New York, Niemann stopped by CBS This Morning for an interview and performance of “Lover, Lover” on “Live From The Couch” in support of Free The Music. In case you missed it, click HERE to watch.
