Rising country star Jimmie Allen teams up with pop singer Noah Cyrus for the blood-pumping new duet “This Is Us,” rediscovering a romantic connection both thought was lost for good.
The youngest member of the musical dynasty that includes Billy Ray and Miley, Cyrus co-wrote the emotional anthem with another big country name — Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line — plus Jordan Schmidt, Ilsey Juber and Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II. It features a rush of modern sonics with a dramatic piano melody and sweeping electronic production backing a potent vocal combo, and is slated to hit county radio on March 23. With soaring chorus harmonies and a memorable hook, the unlikely pairing actually works surprisingly well, with Allen singing his new collaborator’s praises.
“I’ve been a fan of Noah’s music for a while. When I got the call to be a part of the song, I was honored,” the country hit maker says. “It was co-written by one of my friends Tyler Hubbard [of Florida Georgia Line] which made it super special. I love the song and Noah did her thing on it!”
“‘Cause it was just you, And that was just me / And that was just the way that it used to be / And we were just kids back then trying to figure out what it was / No, it wasn’t that bad, But could’ve been better / If only back then we’d have been together / But it was just you, And that was just me / Before we found love / Now, this is us,” the pair sing in the track’s chorus.
Allen’s current single “Make Me Want To” is out now and follows up his first chart-topping hit, “Best Shot.” He’s on the road now with U.S. dates scheduled through February 29, before embarking on a run of European and Australian dates in March and returning stateside for a busy concert tour this summer. Cyrus scored a Gold-certified hit with Leon Bridges on the rootsy “July” in 2019, and the pair expect to release a music video for “This Is Us” soon.
