Jordan Davis puts a suave spin on a Jo Dee Messina classic for the Amazon Original series, covering the run-away-with-me anthem “Heads Carolina, Tails California.”

Originally released by Messina in 1996, the aspirational fan favorite gets a fresh coat of modern style in Davis’ hands. The “Slow Dance in a Parking Lot” singer applies his always-cool vocal and eases back on the open-highway energy, then wraps it in a laid-back mix of sounds from both the old school and new. When all is said and done, the singalong staple ends up taking on a whole new (and much more intimate) feel.

“I’ve loved ‘Heads Carolina, Tails California’ since I was a kid,” Davis shares in a statement. “Songwriters Mark D. Sanders and Tim Nichols wrote a country hit that still stands today and Jo Dee’s vocals just make it soar. I wanted to throw a different spin on the tempo and production of the song as I think there are so many interpretations when you have lyrics and music this strong. It was fun to take it on. Hope y’all enjoy!”

Looking down the road, Jordan Davis kicks off his headlining Trouble Town Tour in Milwaukee tonight (January 10), with special guests Kassi Ashton and Hailey Whitters joining for select dates. His romantic new duet with pop star Julia Michaels, “Cool Anymore,” is out now.
