Kane Brown might not have won any awards at last night’s (October 14) 2020 Billboard Music Awards, but he did score a different kind of prize — a long-awaited performance with his friends.

Remarking before the show that it would be his first onstage collaboration since the pandemic began, the hit maker made the best of his opportunity, turning in a vibey performance of the bittersweet “Be Like That” alongside hip hop star Swae Lee and R&B talent Khalid (who took home five awards on the night).

Dressed in a floral T-shirt and a black “Miracle” hat, Brown led his laid-back jam in equally relaxed fashion. The breakout country star kicked the beachy track off before his crossover partners joined in, and by the end all three were center stage at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater, grooving to a catchy tune that is still climbing Billboard’s Hot 100 pop chart.

Earlier in the night Kane Brown took a Q&A session with reporters, and also touched on the possibility of fans hearing new music. He ended up saying yes, he has been working on new songs, but noted that songwriting is tricky at the moment because even though he’s had plenty of time, he’s not feeling very motivated — “unless I write about COVID.” Still, fans can expect to eventually hear the “two or three” new songs he’s penned so far.

Elsewhere on the 2020 Billboard Awards, country winners included Luke Combs (Top Country Artist, Top Male Country Artist, Top Country Album — What You See Is What You Get), Maren Morris (Top Female Country Artist), Dan + Shay (Top Country Duo/Group, Top Country Song — “10,000 Hours” with Justin Bieber), George Strait (Top Country Tour) and Garth Brooks (Icon Award). Combs also performed during the show.
