Kane Brown takes fans to Mississippi in his just-released country single, but when it comes to country success, this hit maker is building an empire that spans the whole country-music world.

The superstar recently opened his own song publishing company (Verse 2 Music), and his “One Mississippi” single is an early return on his investment.

Speaking with Audacy’s Katie Neal about the new track — a pure-country foot tapper who’s romantic theme borders on heartbreak — Brown says the song finds him playing the role of artist and executive.

“I’ve been telling everybody this song means a lot to me because I found this dude from Alabama — his name is Levon [Gray], and he’s also a writer on the song,” Brown explained. “He tagged me on an Instagram story of him singing, and I told him I’m starting my publishing company and said ‘How would you like to write songs?’ He said ‘I’d love to,’ so I told him to come up to Nashville and write one song with me, and he came up and brought the idea of ‘One Mississippi,’ so we just let him run with it. This is the first song we’re cutting off the album.”

That’s not a bad start for Kane Brown (the music businessman), but he’s looking to go farther than scoring new songs for himself. Brown also launched a record label called 1021 Entertainment and signed the band Restless Road, who will soon join him on the road for his Blessed & Free Tour with Chase Rice. As for the upcoming album, Brown says he has nine songs recorded so far — likely to include his recent pop collab, “Memory” (with blackbear).

Meanwhile, the hit maker is soaking up the last few weeks of being a stay-at-home dad. He says his daughter Kingsley Rose is starting to become a little version of an adult, and his social videos show all the fun they have together. She’s even a fan of “One Mississippi.”

“Her personality is off the chart,” Kane Brown says. “She can’t talk yet, but she knows what she wants, she just points. She says ‘yea’, and she says ‘dad’. Every time I wake up and look downstairs she goes ‘Daaa’…She says ‘mom’, but she screams my name every time I come through the door.”
