Kane Brown matches musical wits with a pair of rap and R&B stars for an envelope pushing new track, releasing “Be Like That” with Swae Lee and Khalid.
Feeling like a thought that won’t stop running through your mind in the middle of the night, the track feels both like a breezy summer anthem and a heartbroken lament. With clean-strummed electric guitar and woozy atmospherics behind them, the trio take turns describing a troubled relationship in laid-back style — but it’s clearly a “can’t live with them, can’t live without them” situation. All the while Brown’s resonate baritone weaves between Khalid’s effortless soul and Swae Lee’s brightly-colored flow, adding up to a genre-defying standout.
“I might be better on my own / I hate you blowin’ up my phone / I wish I never met your ass / Sometimes it be like that / But I’m not myself the nights you’re gone / There ain’t no way I’m movin’ on / I’m not afraid to need you bad / Sometimes it be like that,” goes the infectious chorus.
The track is already making a splash on pop radio, starting its first week as the most added track in the Top 40 format. “Be Like That” follows Brown’s unifying ballad “Worldwide Beautiful” and his current single, “Cool Again,” reuniting him with Khalid after their “Saturday Nights” collaboration in January 2019. Swae Lee released his new single, “Reality Check,” in June.
