Rising country singer-songwriter Kassi Ashton has released her rendition of “Hard Candy Christmas.” The melancholic holiday song was first recorded and made popular by Dolly Parton in her 1982 movie, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

Ashton’s soulful vocals shine on this wistful tune, as she delivers the emotional lyrics with an aching resolute. “I’ll be fine and dandy / Lord it’s like a hard candy Christmas / I’m barely getting through tomorrow / But still I won’t let / Sorrow get me way down,” the country newcomer sings on the chorus.

“I think we can all agree, it’s been a hell of a year,” says Ashton in a press statement. “But as the year comes to a close, and we are all in the holiday spirit, it’s time to decide what we take with us and what we leave behind- and there is no better fitting song for that than Dolly Parton’s ‘Hard Candy Christmas.’”

Earlier in October, Ashton announced her partnership with Harley-Davidson earlier with her rollicking new song “Black Motorcycle.” Prior to that, the MCA Nashville/Interscope Records artist released “Hopeless,” an unapologetic break-up anthem.
