Keith Urban is on track to bring his latest hit single, “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16,” to the top of the Country radio charts. Urban says he was immediately intrigued about the song, which was written by Shane McAnally, Ross Copperman, and Josh Osborne, the moment he first saw the title.

“I saw the title of the song first and was curious to what that song would be,” the singer tells Country Countdown USA. “Some songs grab me at first listen. Other songs creep up on me. I love those songs too, but this was immediate.”

After playing the song three times, Urban decided to test it out for himself. “Then [I] went and grabbed my guitar and came out and I sort of sang along with it, and I thought, ‘I think this really, really suits me. I love this song, and I think it suits me.’”

Although he didn’t have a hand in writing this one, Urban felt a strong connection to it. “That’s the other funny part about recording songs that I haven’t written, and other artists experience it too, you get in the studio with a song you love, but it just doesn’t suit you. It sounds like karaoke, and yet this one felt so right.”

“John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16″ is the lead single from Urban’s yet-to-be-announced new album.
