The love Kelly Clarkson holds for country music is no secret. She’s even collaborated with superstar friends like Reba and Jason Aldean over the years. But when she belts a classic like The Chicks“Sin Wagon,” she often makes it her own.

Clarkson did just that on a recent episode of her daytime variety show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, taking a super-twangy favorite from the late ’90s and injecting it with her powerhouse vocals, all as part of her “Kellyoke” karaoke segment. A fan favorite from the 1999 album, Fly, (which itself was the follow up to their breakout LP, Wide Open Spaces), “Sin Wagon” became a crowd favorite for fans of The Chicks — especially because of it’s quick tempo and empowering, bad-as-I-want-to-be theme. All about embracing your wild side, the song features fiddles, think harmonies and a rolling drum beat — and now, Clarkson’s unique brand of country singing.

“Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition,” she sings in the clip’s fast-moving hook. “Need a little bit more of my 12-ounce nutrition / One more helpin’ of what I’ve been havin’ / I’m takin’ my turn on the sin wagon.”

The Chicks changed their name from the Dixie Chicks in 2020 as racial discrimination protests over the death of George Floyd swept the nation, and then in July, released their first album in 14 years, Gaslighter. During her Kellyoke segments, Clarkson regularly covers songs by country artists like¬†Taylor Swift, Brooks & Dunn — and even The Chicks’ “Cowboy Take Me Away” — and also pop stars like Lizzo. The Kelly Clarkson Show airs on NBC.
