Kelly Clarkson had a very special surprise for a true hero on The Kelly Clarkson Show this week, serenading a survivor of the Route 91 Harvest Festival in the first ever “Ambush Love Song.”

The story begins with a couple named Shannon and Troy, high school sweethearts who have spent their whole lives together — building a family, beating a cancer diagnosis and even attending Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Festival in 2017. The couple were caught up in the terrifying mass shooting which cost 58 fans their lives and wounded hundreds more — including Troy, who was shot in the leg. But despite his injuries, the long time police officer was credited with saving 20 other fans, earning a medal of valor for his brave efforts.

Flash forward to Clarkson’s daytime TV couch and Shannon was looking for a way to make Troy feel how much he means to her — and to everyone else he comes in contact with. So Clarkson enlisted the vocal group Pentatonix and one of her favorite songwriters, and the team came up with a personalized love song to do just that.
