It takes more than faith, trust and pixie dust for the relationship between Kelsea Ballerini and her lost boy in the debut music video for her latest single, “Peter Pan.”

With the help of a high-flying thrill seeker and the middle-of-nowhere Neverland setting, director Kristin Barlowe teamed up with Ballerini to create the real-life version of the famous fairytale in the video. Ballerini wanted the video to communicate the harsh realities that come to face during a breakup.

“I loved the idea of having a song about a breakup that wasn’t some dramatic cheating or scandal moment. It’s the kind of thing where one person just can’t emotionally match the other, and that’s a sad kind of ending and heartbreak…that’s what I wanted this song and the video to capture,” she said about the clip.

The video, filmed in the outskirts of the Las Vegas desert, paints what seems to be the perfect relationship ruined by the miscommunication between Ballerini’s daredevil beau and her grounded self. Featuring scenes of the dreamy draping of Ballerini’s sleek satin rompers and aerial plane tricks, the video takes viewers up, up and away but just shy of the iconic land neighboring the second star to the right.

Ballerini will be performing with pop singer Nick Jonas at the 51st Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, airing this Sunday  live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena on CBS at 8 p.m. EST.
