Kenny Chesney has always had a sentimental side, which echoes in “I Go Back,” “You & Tequila,” “There Goes My Life,” even the raucous “Keg In The Closet.” So with “The Tonight Show” entering its final months, the singer/songwriter from Luttrell, Tennessee knew it was the perfect place to perform his introspective “When I See This Bar” for Jay Leno on July 22.

“There are some things that just are,” Chesney says. “The friendships you make along the way, the places you’ve been… and even though they change, they remain the same in your mind. That is very much what ‘When I See This Bar’ is all about, and I think for a whole lot of people, that’s what Jay Leno and ‘The Tonight Show’ have meant, too.”

With his ‘No Shoes Nation Tour,’ which has already sold well over a million tickets, picking up and heading out West, “The Tonight Show” will kick off a California leg that includes the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View and culminating at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. Hailed as “The King of the Road” by The Wall Street Journal, Chesney’s tour will hit 19 stadiums before wrapping up August 23-24 in Boston at Gillette Stadium.

“It’s amazing how bringing these songs out to the fans has been such an emotional experience this year,” says the high energy entertainer. “Maybe releasing an album like Life On A Rock brings everything closer to the surface, but I just know – the fans have really brought it this year, so much heart and so much passion. You can hear it when they sing along and you can feel it when we hit the stage.”

Life On A Rock, Chesney’s seventh No.1 Billboard all-genre Top 200 Albums debut, has been receiving strong critical notice. Billboard noted, “…surely the most personal work he’s ever done, time will likely prove it to be among his best-loved by fans,” The Washington Post said, “It’s a bold move, considering that a new crop of country rockers are selling millions of albums modeled on Chesney’s pounding arena rock sound. But, Chesney follows his muse and offers up an album that exposes his weathered soul. The result is as appealing as it is surprising and The Chicago Tribune opined, “the country superstar turns down the volume to offer a quieter and more contemplative meditation on sand and sea.”

“What this album is, what Jay Leno means,” Chesney says, “makes me glad we can go play ‘When I See This Bar’ somewhere that its meaning makes sense. They have a lot of great music that’s been there, a lot of great friendships and fun, and that’s everything ‘When I See This Bar’ is all about.

“It’ll be good to kick off California with ‘The Tonight Show,’ and then close it down with a big show at Angels’ Stadium. It’s gonna be a great week.”
