Kylie Morgan Aims to Keep Her Identity in ‘Independent With You’

Kylie Morgan aims to have it all in the just-released single, “Independent With You,” pledging to keep her identity even as romance blooms.
A heartfelt tribute to all those women who refuse to settle for second best, or give up their dreams for love, it’s an inspiring new standout with a story pulled straight from Morgan’s real life.
Written by the rising star alongside Erik Belz and Palmer Lee, with production by Ben Johnson, Shane McAnally and Belz, the track features a sweet-and-sour quality to it, matching delicate sonics to Morgan’s vocal determination. She debuted the song yesterday (February 24) at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium as part of the 2022 Country Radio Seminar, and told the crowd that it was inspired by falling in love with her now fiancé, fellow artist Jay Allen.
Morgan didn’t want to give up her dreams and settle down, but also knew her heart wanted to be with Allen. As she searched her feelings, this song was born, and it comes with a happy ending. Morgan and Allen got engaged last Memorial day during a Whiskey Jam performance (the moment captured by People) and the driven Oklahoman’s star continues to shine.
“To all my independent souls who have felt they have to be less to be more….you don’t,” Morgan wrote on Instagram of the song. “Never dim your light. Never throw water on your fire. Never pull back to hold on to something or someone who does not deserve you. You WILL find the person that gives you both. And if you don’t, they are not your person. Shine bright my loves. God has a special plan for you, I promise.”
“Can I let you in without changing who I am / Do I have to choose / Can I still be independent with you,” goes the song’s chorus.
“Independent With You” follows Morgan’s 2021 EP Love, Kylie, and more new music is on the way.
