Lauren Alaina blows off some broken-hearted steam in her latest country single, unleashing the power-packed “Getting Over Him” (featuring Jon Pardi).

Written by Alaina with Emily Weisband and Paul DiGiovanni, “Getting Over Him” is the title track to the hit maker’s latest EP, and it shows off her rebellious side. Featuring a hard driving bar-rock sound, tough electric guitars and a self-assured vocal, it’s all about recovering from a breakup in the best way she knows how — and taking out her frustration on an unsuspecting rebound.

Looking for some no-strings attached fun, Alaina and Pardi trade flirtatious lines about a late-night blast of romantic therapy, and the star says she wrote the song about something she’s never really been able to experience.

“I have never done that,” Alaina said last year. “I’ve been in two very serious relationships, and it was like, I never really dated. Just like, saw if I liked them or not. So this song was important for me to write, just about having a good time on a Friday night — and Jon Pardi is the definition of having a good time on a Friday night.”

“We were dive bar kissing / Heartbreak fixing / No strings, Saturday night / Hot like a match that burned out fast / Forever wasn’t in our eyes / You knew it, and I knew it / And it was a damn good time / My last call, first call, no falling / Just my getting over him guy,” goes the chorus.

Lauren Alaina released her Getting Over Him EP in September of 2020, just a few months before hitting Number One hit with breakout artist Hardy and Devin Dawson on their collaborative chart topper, “One Beer.” On January 27 she celebrated the 10 year anniversary of her debut on American Idol with a heartfelt throwback post on Instagram.
