Lauren Alaina tributes her “guardian angel” in the new spiritual anthem, “The Other Side,” seeking some holy ground here on Earth in memory of her late stepfather.

Filled with heavenly tones, uplifting (and deeply personal) vocals and a full-on gospel choir for good measure, the redemptive power ballad is dedicated to Alaina’s stepdad, Sam Ramker, who she notes passed away from cancer one year ago today.

“He was always my champion,” Alaina writes on a moving social media post. “He was always my number one fan. Now he’s my guardian angel. I can’t believe my stepdad has been gone a year today. This is going to be an extremely hard day for my family, but I know Sam is with us and is so proud of us all. I am dancing for you tonight Sammy. I’m giving mom all the biggest hugs she deserves. We miss you. See you on The Other Side.”

“Don’t you cry for me ’cause I’m in God’s glory / And I can see his face, it’s amazing / I know you have doubts but I see it right now / I promise it’s real, keep praying,” goes the chorus. “I’ll be waiting, take your time / And go write a story / That you can’t wait to tell me / On the other side.”

Alaina wrote openly about her pain following Ramker’s passing — and the inspiration he provided her – and she is currently competing on Season 28 of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. A big elimination round takes place tonight (October 21) at 7 p.m. CT, and Alaina’s current single, “Getting Good,” is out now.
