After several teases across TikTok, Instagram and other social media outlets, country singer-songwriter Levi Hummon has released two brand new tracks, “Never Wanna Be” and “Same Kind Of Crazy.” The two-song release is part of 36/86 Side A. 36/86 Side B is slated to follow, with the entire effort culminating in the 36/86 EP due out later this Spring.

“Never Wanna Be” is an infectious up-tempo track layered with Hummon’s emotionally-driven vocals and an impressive falsetto in the chorus. “Never wanna be somebody without you / And I never wanna be the guy that lets you down / I never wanna be somebody without you / I always wanna be the guy you want around,” he sings passionately over a chest-thumping country-pop production.

The 29 year old penned the song with Matt McVaney and his father, famed songwriter Marcus Hummon. Since its release, the star power of “Never Wanna Be” has spoken for itself. Last week, the track earned prized spots on numerous editorial playlists on DSPs, including Spotify’s all-genre New Music Friday.

“[‘Never Wanna Be’] is a love song I wrote about coming off the road to make it back in time to be at a party with my girlfriend. Instead of wanting to be at the party, it’s about wanting to leave and just be alone with your person,” Hummon shares in a press statement. “I kind of laugh about this song because while people might think I’m an extrovert I’m truly an introvert and really enjoy nights on the couch ordering in and relaxing,” he admits. “There’s some truth about social anxiety for me in this and also only wanting to be with the person I showed up for and not wanting to share.”

“Same Kind Of Crazy,” is another upbeat love song that finds Hummon reflecting on the very similarities between him and his love interest. “If we get hitched, I wouldn’t be surprised / Because you got the same kind of wild in your eyes / You’re the same kind of crazy as me,” the singer declares boldly on the bridge.

“The hook of this song is ‘you’re the same kind of crazy as me’ and that’s exactly what this song is about—finding the person that fits you,” Hummon says of the song, which he wrote alongside Trannie Anderson and Dallas Wilson. “I think it’s funny how opposites do attract but I’ve always needed someone with a little bit of a wild side to complete me. I wanted to have this be a complete up-tempo that would fit perfectly in my live set and that’s exactly what we went for.”

Prior to this, the Nashville native released the stirring ballad, “A Home,” his tribute to girlfriend, fitness model Dallas Stephens. Earlier releases also include the songs “Good Taste,” “Rock and Roses” and “Wedding Dress.”
