Levi Hummon has teamed up with Walker Hayes for a new song, “Paying For It,” and it might be one of the best country summer anthems released this far.

Penned by Hummon, Hayes and Eric Arjes, the song was born out of a tongue-in-cheek remark Hummon’s girlfriend, fitness model Dallas Stephens, made during a “funny conversation” they had.

“She chipped her tooth the day I was heading to my co-write and said to ‘go write a song that can pay for this’… and the title ‘Paying For It’ hit me,” Hummon tells Sounds Like Nashville. “I obviously turned it into a different story, but that title is definitely because of her.”

With that flashy title in mind, the Tennessee native walked into his writing appointment ready to formulate a hit with Hayes—whose new single “Fancy Like” is country music’s latest viral track. The result? A sprightly, catchy country-pop offering that fits right into car jams, beach hangs and poolside parties.

“That cab ain’t half price even though I’m riding alone / Ain’t just that piggy bank you broke / My heart is achy breaking too / And I’m still paying for it,” Hummon and Hayes sing on the chorus.

While its lyrics are straight-up self-pity, their effervescent delivery makes it an infectious tune and certified bop.

“I’m so excited to partner up with Walker on a song. I’ve been a fan of his for a long time and this is actually the first song we ever wrote together. I brought in the title and he really did his Walker thing to it,” shares Hummon with excitement, before giving a “big shout out to my producer Eric Arjes for killin’ it on this one.”

“I think this song is really special and I’m excited for the world to hear it.”

“Paying For It’ follows the release of Hummon’s 36/86 EP earlier this year. The seven-track collection features the heart-rending “A Home” and anthemic “Never Wanna Be.” Hayes, on the other hand, released his Country Stuff EP last month featuring collaborations with Carly Pearce, Jake Owen and Lori McKenna.
