Country singer-songwriter Lindsay Ell is not just your typical artist-vocalist. She writes her own music and, has been lauded by the many as one of the best guitar players or “shredders” in country music, often receiving comparison remarks to longtime country artist and guitar-playing god, Keith Urban.

With all that praise to her name, it is no surprise when Ell got exposed to music at such an early age. She started playing the piano when she was six years old and picked up the guitar at eight. So, “music has been in [her] blood since [she was] a little girl.”

Much of that has to do with the music education she was surrounded with in school. “The music education programs in my school growing up were so good, and I think they were one of the main reasons why I really fell into this as a career path. I think that if music education at the schools that I went to wasn’t as good, I don’t know if I would even be here in Nashville,” Ell shared.

The ”What Happens In A Small Town” and “Champagne” singer also ascribes a lot of her fearlessness in pursuing a music career and her passion to her 8th grade music teacher. “Mrs. Patterson was so inspiring to me. She made me feel like I could do anything. And as young child, I mean, you were swayed really easily to influences good or bad, and so I think that I just was introduced to music in such wonderful ways that it was always something I leaned on,” recalled Ell warmly.

Growing up, music has also always been an avenue for Ell to take a step back from the stress and voices surrounding her, to be plugged in to her passion and be still.

“You know, when something would go weird at school or with friends or, [when] it was really stressful, I would just always go back to music and that became my therapy, my outlet, and I started writing songs. And so, if I didn’t have those first few teachers to instill that in me, I mean, who knows where I would be.”
