Little Big Town and Trombone Shorty Mix ‘Jambalaya (On The Bayou)’

Little Big Town have mixed up a fresh batch of New Orleans country gumbo, releasing a jazzed up cover of Hank Williams“Jambalaya (On The Bayou).”

Joined by brassy swamp-funk specialist Trombone Shorty, the Cajun-flavored anthem is chock full of fresh ingredients, from LBT’s four-part harmony to jangling percussion, Zydeco rhythms and of course, joyful blasts of Shorty’s trombone.

The unlikely pals have teamed up multiple times before, appearing on the 2016 ACM Awards for a performance of “Stay All Night” and the 2019 CMT Awards with Thomas Rhett for “Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time.” They recorded this new version of the Hank Sr. favorite for CBS’ United We Sing: A Grammy Salute To The Unsung Heroes special.

“Brought some Louisiana bayou vibe to Nashville,” wrote Shorty on Instagram, who’s real name is Troy Andrews.

Proceeds from the track will benefit the Shorty Foundation and Roots of Music, an organization that empowers the youth of New Orleans through music education, academic support and mentorship. Little Big Town will appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Monday (July 13) to perform their new track, “Wine, Beer, Whiskey.”
