Luke Bryan will miss out on this season’s first live show of American Idol after testing positive for COVID-19. The “Waves” singer shared the news early Monday morning (4/12) with a tweet posted out to his followers.

“I’m sad to say I won’t be a part of tonight’s first live @AmericanIdol show. I tested positive for COVID but I’m doing well and look forward to being back at it soon,” the singer shared.

Bryan was also expected to perform at the 2021 ACM Awards on Sunday, April 18. A representative for the Entertainer of the Year nominee confirms to Sounds Like Nashville that he would no longer be participating in the celebration.

The Georgia native is the latest country star to battle the contagious disease. Lauren Alaina and Trisha Yearwood both recently tested positive with coronavirus, and thankfully, have both since recovered fully. The ongoing pandemic has put pause on a lot of group activities, including plans for this year’s CMA Fest, which has been postponed for the second year. Many stars, including Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Loretta Lynn have all received their vaccines and are encouraging fans to do the same.

Idol rounded out its Top 16 last night with the fan voted results show. The show is expected to narrow down the 16 to the Top 10 contestants during Monday’s live show.

American Idol airs Sundays and Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
