Luke Bryan steps into smooth-and-sexy country for his new single, “Down to One,” getting back to that prime connection that rules the world.

An easy-listening mix of country heart and pop sonics, the track features a glittering synth line over the top of some truly head-over-heels lyrics. “Down to One” was co-written by Dallas Davidson, Justin Ebach and Kyle Fishman, and like many of Bryan’s hits of the past its steeped in romantic country-boy charm. But this one takes a fresh approach to the one-on-one theme, all about a couple who’s vision seems to narrow until the person sitting next to them is all that’s left.

“Down to one is a real kind of typical song from me that you’d expect through the years,” Bryan explains in a video about the track, which he recently revealed as his wife’s favorite new song. “The first time I heard it — it’s written by one of my dear friends Dallas Davidson, who I’ve had a lot of success with as a co-writer, and it just sounds like a big ol’ hit. A guy and a girl out there in the middle of nowhere, enjoying a romantic moment together, and I always feel like you’ve gotta have those on an album.”

“We were down to 1 AM / Listening to one more song / Thinking I want more than just one night out here with you alone / Down to that last Bud Light in the back of that two-tone, half-ton / My heart was telling me that one more kiss and I’d be done / Down to one hand in mine / Down to one beautiful smile / I was done with the girl I want / Straight falling in love / Right there that night / Down to one,” goes the chorus.

“Down to One” is part of the latest album from Luke Bryan, Born Here Live Here Die Here, which marked his seventh studio set back in August. As his new single, the track hopes to continue a hot streak for the project, which has already produced back-to-back-to-back Number Ones with “Knockin’ Boots,” “What She Wants Tonight” and “One Margarita.” The country superstar just started filming a new season of American Idol.
