Maren Morris took her life story to the 57th annual ACM Awards stage with her autobiographical single, “Circles Around This Town.”

Performing on an elevated stage in Allegiant Stadium against the sunset, the country superstar boasted both storytelling pride and love. “I’ve been kind and I’ve been ruthless / Yeah, I got here, but the truth is / Thought when I hit it, it’d all look different / But I still got the pedal down / Drivin’ circles around this town,” Morris sang on the buoyant chorus. Even with a deeply personal story, the singer-songwriter’s made it emotionally accessible for listeners from all walks of life.

Marking the first taste of Morris’ upcoming third studio album, Humble Quest (out March 25), “Circles Around This Town” was written by Morris with country-singer husband Ryan HurdJulia Michaels and Jimmy Robbins. It was released in January, and is rising up the country charts, reaching the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs.

As the first major country awards show to air exclusively as a live stream, the 57th annual ACM Awards took place on Monday (March 7) at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium. Co-hosted by Dolly Parton with Jimmie Allen and Gabby Barrett, the show featured more than 20 performances and was carried by Amazon Prime Video.
