Throwback trio Midland bring a famous North Hollywood night club back from the dead in their video for “Cheatin’ Songs,” capturing a sweaty live performance at the long-closed Palomino.

Filmed during the band’s raucous one-night reopening of Los Angeles’ most infamous country venue, the unfiltered clip was directed by Collin Duddy and shows a big part of what drives the emerging band’s acclaim. There’s no smoke and mirrors helping gloss over what Mark Wystrach, Jess Carson and Cam Duddy are all about — it’s just a classically-tinged done-me-wrong anthem and a red-hot band taking twang to the people.

“Looking at how committed we’ve been to taking it on the road, playing this music for the people is an interesting way to live” Duddy says. “My peak moment every night is when people sing the songs back to us. That never gets old.”

“She’s bringin’ back cheatin’ songs / The kind of hurt that gets you singin’ along / Something circa 1973 / She’s lying with him and she’s lying to me / She’s bringin’ back diamond rings / Slipped in the pocket of her tight, fittin’ jeans / It’s back in fashion doin’ somebody wrong / She’s bringin’ back cheatin’ songs,” goes the twangy, tear-in-your-beer chorus.

“Cheatin’ Songs” comes off Midland’s second album, Let It Roll, and they’ll keep the hammer down this summer, spend much of their time on the road with Tim McGraw’s Here On Earth Tour.
