Miranda Lambert imagines herself as the queen of all outlaws in her brand new country-radio single, releasing the girl-power anthem, “If I Was a Cowboy,” today (October 15).

Featuring a dreamy and bright country-roots sound, with windblown vocals and a galloping rhythm, the track casts Lambert in a role she’s always seemed destined to play. Living free and sleeping under the stars — and taking all the liberties the men of the Wild West were known for — Lambert sings that she could do this cowboy thing just as well as any man … and probably better. Think of it like a country companion to tracks like Beyonce’s “If I Were a Boy,” and Taylor Swift’s “The Man.”

Lambert will send the track to country radio Monday (10/18), and in sharing it with fans, explained that the song helps start a whole new chapter. Not appearing on her Wildcard album, she co-wrote “If I Was a Cowboy” with the songwriter/producer who helped create her dance remix for “Tequila Does,” Jesse Frasure.

“I wrote this song with my new friend, Jesse Frasure. We met doing the remix of ‘Tequila Does’ and he and I just got together one afternoon for a write and this is what came out of it,” explained Lambert. “It’s funny, he’s a Detroit boy and I’m an East Texan, but somehow we wrote a song about the Wild West together.”

“If I was a cowboy, I’d be wild and free / Rollin’ around these towns like tumbleweeds / I’d be a legend at loving and leaving / Nipping on a whiskey and numbing up my feelings / You thought the West was wild but you ain’t saddled up with me / If I was a cowboy, I’d be the queen,” goes the chorus.

“If I Was A Cowboy” follows Lambert’s Top 5 hit “Settling Down,” which appeared on her Grammy winning album, Wildcard. The project also included her latest Number One, “Bluebird.”

Meanwhile, the country superstar is also releasing her first ever fragrance – Idyllwind Eau De Parfum by Miranda Lambert. Said to combine Lambert’s favorite scents, the perfume includes “notes of Georgia sweet peach blossoms, and musky golden sandalwood that stirs memories of the piney woods of East Texas.” Pre-orders are available now, and deliveries are expected to begin at the end of this month.
