Miranda Lambert: Songs That Should’ve Been Singles

The art of choosing radio singles is complex and laborious. There are more factors involved than when choosing a presidential candidate. This following list is not an indictment of the choices that were made by Miranda Lambert and her record label of which songs to release to radio. Instead, this list is a celebration of the songs that are in high rotation on our iPods and that we’d love to hear coming in over the radio waves.

“Greyhound Bound for Nowhere”

Country fans love a good cheating song, but this one will break your heart. Miranda sings the tale of an affair gone wrong with immense sadness. “Bright lights of a city shining up ahead / My heart’s analyzing every word you said / Did you take me for a fool or did you really care / I’m on a Greyhound bound for nowhere.”

“Mama, I’m Alright”

Anyone who has ever left home can surely relate to the sentiment of “Mama, I’m Alright.” In true Miranda fashion, the songs chronicles the good and bad that we group through as we come of age, but leaves us with the hope that every obstacle makes us more prepared to take on the world.

“Airstream Song”

Wanderlust is a universal feeling. We all wonder what life would be like if we were somewhere else and with someone else. We wrestle with who were are, as opposed to who we want to be. “Sometimes I wish I lived in an airstream, homemade curtains, lived just like a gypsy.”

“Makin’ Plans”

Love songs have never been Miranda’s forte, but she does it so well and so true to her persona in this tune. It’s a story of faults and finding the person who loves you in spite of them. This tune has become a mainstay at fan’s weddings and on our love song playlists.

“Dear Diamond”

Miranda explained that she wrote this song for her engagement ring prior to her marriage to Blake Shelton. It’s sad and slow and wonderful and includes some breathtaking lines such as, “You cost more than he wanted to lose.”

“Bathroom Sink”

She’s performed this tune on the CMA Awards, but it has yet to be released as a single. “Bathroom Sink” is a look at what we see when the glamour is gone and we’re standing at our bathroom sink. It’s real and honest and we’re ready to hear it on the radio.
