Rising singer-songwriter Mitch Rossell goes with the flow for the uplifting new track, “When Things Ain’t Goin Right,” reminding listeners that lemonade is still best made from lemons.

An upbeat Southern rocker with a bright-but-bluesy edge, the lighthearted track is the perfect fuel for getting through a tough time — and it premieres on Sounds Like Nashville today (May 17).

Ticking off a bunch of daily annoyances — like having to work late, locking your keys in your truck and then getting stuck in traffic — the smiling anthem makes the best of a bad situation. When life’s inevitable road blocks appear, Rossell cleverly sings, just search for a new path. And you may even like what you find.

“Well the moral of the story is when things ain’t goin’ right / Just take a left,” goes the bounding chorus hook, featuring Rossell’s easy-going vocal delivery, hand claps and a rousing piano.

“‘When Things Ain’t Goin’ Right’ is an idea I had for a while, and I think it just took the right people in the room at the right time to make it happen,” the hit maker tells SLN. “I was writing with my buddies Curt Collins and Kelby Costner and I threw it out and they both loved it so off we went. I just can’t help but listen to it without finding myself smiling. I just love how fun it is and how it reminds me not to sweat the small stuff.”

Taking his approach down a new, more cheerful road, “When Things Ain’t Goin’ Right” is the follow up to Rossell’s faithful ballad, “2020,” which spoke to a year of turmoil and hit Number One on iTunes Country chart. Following its release, the East Tennessee native went on to unveil a stunning duet with Trisha Yearwood called “Ran Into You” in April, continuing connection that started with Garth Brooks’ “Ask Me How I Know.”

Brooks took that Mitch Rossell-penned track to Number One in 2017 (Rossell’s first chart topper). And the superstar has also recorded Rossell-written cuts like “Dive Bar (featuring Blake Shelton), “All Day Long” and “That’s What Cowboys Do.”
