Morgan Wallen teams with Chris Stapleton for a vocally-satisfying country duet, mixing gritty voices on “Only Thing That’s Gone.”

Built on a classic-country feeling theme, the track is a true bar-top bummer of a standout, with Wallen reflecting on a relationship that came to an end… and how he ended up drinking. His drink isn’t the only thing that’s gone, Wallen sings in brokenhearted sorrow, and Stapleton can feel his pain. The Kentucky native seems to sit down and commiserate about a romantic scar of his own.

“Bartender pour me one more / Make it quick and make it strong / ‘Casue buddy my last drink / Ain’t the only thing that’s gone,” the pair harmonize, before Stapleton steps up with another moody verse.

“Only Thing That’s Gone” was co-written by Morgan Wallen with Matt Dragstrem, Chase McGill and Josh Thompson, and it arrives as part of the hit maker’s second album, Dangerous: The Double Album, which was released today (January 8).

The ambitious LP stretches out over 30 tracks in total and is now available for streaming — and included plenty of drama in its rollout. Wallen recently responded to the album being leaked by Walmart by leaking a number of songs on his own, and the project’s previously released singles include “More Than My Hometown” and “7 Summers.”
