Nate Fredrick captures an emotional breaking point in the fed-up and frustrated “Forget Ever Loving Me,” a breakup anthem sung in the very moment a relationship self-destructs.

Premiering on Sounds Like Nashville today (January 27) and part of the Missouri native’s upcoming debut album, the track is more than just a tune about splitting up — it’s about wishing you could erase another person from your life, completely. With a weary presentation and blues-rock sound, Fredrick basically throws hands up and lets go, realizing some loves just aren’t worth saving.

A soulful groove and steady heartbeat ground the self-penned track, while a whirring organ and classic guitar give it a timeless feel — but it’s the newcomer’s gritty, 100-percent-done vocal that steals the show. Fredrick explains that it stems from the pain brought on by a real life experience … it just wasn’t his.

“This song is the oldest song on the record, written seven years ago,” Fredrick says of the track. “The title and topic came from a dating experience my sister had that turned into her telling me, ‘I wish he would just forget ever loving me.’ It sparked an idea — that sometimes we take it a bit too far in relationships and find ourselves on totally different pages. This song has stayed with me and become more relevant in certain moments of my life when I’ve felt stuck on either side of unrequited love, the same way my sister once did.”

Possessing a warm, bluesy Americana style informed by the likes of Guy Clark, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Van Morrison, Nate Fredrick is now based in Nashville and has more music on the way. His debut album, Different Shade of Blue, was produced by David Dorn and will arrive on February 26, featuring 10 tracks written or co-written by Fredrick himself. The project’s first single, “Paducah” — a love letter to spiritual awakening found on the road — is out now.
