Hit makers Old Dominion let their worries float away with the new track, “I Was On a Boat That Day,” setting a course for good times with a true summertime jam.

Full of joy and finding the band at their fun-loving emotional peak, the bright-and-sunny track is all about leaving your cares at the dock. Drenched in sun even as a breakup unfolds, lead singer Matthew Ramsey gets his sonic sea legs, leading the country hit makers through a surly singalong with an accordion (and some tequila) pumping up the smile-factor.

“When you listen to ‘I Was On a Boat That Day’ you are hearing us in the full joy of making music together,” Ramsey says. “From the moment I counted the band off we were smiling from beginning to end. The tequila was flowing, the laughter was loud, and we knew in that moment we were creating something that would bring people as much joy as it was bringing us.”

“I Was On a Boat That Day” was written by all five band members — Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Brad Tursi, Whit Sellers, and Geoff Sprung — plus producer Shane McAnally and hit maker Josh Osborne.

The anchor-dropping anthem is not included on their most-recent album, Old Dominion, so it may be an early taste of a new project the group said they recorded in Asheville, North Carolina, during the pandemic. Their current single, “Never Be Sorry,” is out now, and they’ll return to the road for their We Are Old Dominion: Live at The Ballpark Tour on July 17 in Jackson, Tennessee.
