Fresh off the heels of their recent sixth career No. 1 song “Make It Sweet,” Old Dominion isn’t anywhere near slowing down. The group is gearing up for their taped episode of Songland to air on national television, which they joked on a recent interview with The Sam Alex Show’s Sam Alex, is going to propel them to be “TV stars!”

“[The show] is kinda like ‘The Voice’ for songwriting, is how I’d describe it. Shane [McAnally] is one of the judges or mentors, along with Ester Dean, a big pop songwriters, and Ryan Tedder. And so they have different artist guests every week and we were the guest on one of the episodes,” guitarist and keyboardist Trevor Rosen shared. “It’s a really cool show.”

Now, they’re just waiting in eager anticipation for the episode to air.

In the conversation about songwriting, the group of five also told Alex that writers like Songland’s McAnally, Josh Osborne and Matt Jenkins were some of the first few people they met in Nashville, as well as hit writer and country artist Sam Hunt.

Lead singer Matthew Ramsey recalled about Hunt, “Yeah, Sam was one of the first few people… I wrote two songs on his album with him!”

But when asked if new music is on the horizon for Hunt, Ramsey was just as clueless as everyone else. “He’s around… I just wrote with him. I wrote with him not too long ago. But he’s still…I don’t man to be honest with you… He’s being Sam! (laughs) Which is a great thing for him to be.”

Old Dominion are currently touring across the country on their Make It Sweet Tour, that spans all the way to January 2020. For more information and tickets, click here.

Songland airs Wednesdays 9/8c on NBC.

The Sam Alex Show is a nightly radio program syndicated to country music radio stations nationwide.
